When Near Future came to Aura Casting to help find talent for an Amazon Kindle Scribe commercial, we knew this would be a unique challenge.

The creative called for lifestyle models, but not just any models.

These actors needed to have excellent penmanship and natural, fluid hand movements, since their writing would be featured up close throughout the spot. Details like this can make or break a project, and we were ready to deliver.

We have cast hand models before, so our team was already experienced with the nuances of what makes someone look natural on camera when the focus is their hands. Unlike a traditional commercial where presence, expressions, and charisma are the main considerations, this project demanded an additional layer of specificity. Penmanship mattered. Comfort with writing mattered. Even whether someone was left handed or right handed had to be considered in order to capture the right angle and flow for the shot.

The look of the commercial itself was cozy, classic, modern, and chic, which meant the actors also needed to fit seamlessly into that world. We were not just casting hands in isolation. We were finding people whose overall presence would enhance the final story, both in wide lifestyle shots and in those intimate writing close-ups.

This was a very popular project. Within just a short window of time, our casting received more than 900 submissions. Because the production schedule required a quick turnaround, our team dug in over the weekend and carefully reviewed each submission. We called in independent casting contractors to support the process so that no self tape was left unwatched. With that many talented people to consider, efficiency and organization were key.

From there, we narrowed down the list to a handful of strong contenders. In auditions, we focused not just on performance, but on handwriting samples and ease with pen-to-paper movement. The smallest details can reveal whether someone is truly comfortable with this kind of work. After a thoughtful and collaborative review process with Near Future, we landed on four fantastic actors who brought everything the project required.

The shoot day was a success from start to finish. The production team had a wonderful day on set and thanked us immensely for providing talent who not only delivered beautifully on camera but also brought professionalism and ease in between takes. For us, that is always the measure of a successful casting. When the client feels supported and the talent elevates the creative, everyone wins.

Casting for something like the Amazon Kindle Scribe commercial shows how important it is to think beyond the obvious. Sometimes the right actor is not just about the look or even the performance, but about the specific details that bring authenticity to the screen. That is where our experience comes in, and why we love what we do.
